Junior Dunn

Funeral service for Chancey Elmer “Junior” Dunn, Jr. formerly of Saint Jo, is set for 10:00 AM, Friday, June 16, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Saint Jo. Burial will follow in Dye Mound Cemetery outside of Saint Jo. A visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the funeral home. All services are under the direction of Scott Funeral Home in Saint Jo. Chancey Elmer Dunn Jr., known to many simply as Junior, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Beehive Homes of Lewisville at the age of 78. Born on August 17, 1938 to Chancey Elmer and Mary (Wilson) Dunn in Montague County, Chancey was raised in Forestburg and Saint Jo. As the youngest of ten children, he had fond memories of being raised on the family farm with his seven sisters and two brothers. After graduating high school, Chancey earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Arts from the University of North Texas. He married Joan Smith on December 23, 1966 and was a loving and devoted husband for fifty years. Chancey spent most of his career working for H-E-B ISD, first as a teacher and then as the Director of Maintenance. After his retirement in June of 2000, he enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty of his harvest with family, friends, and neighbors. He delighted in watching the critters along the creek that ran through his backyard, and making sure that the birds, fish, and turtles were well fed. Chancey was an avid carpenter and could build or fix anything. He was kind and generous and always willing to help with a project. Father to Kari Frederick and Stacy Dunn, Chancey always offered sound advice and a loving heart. He insured that his family had everything that they needed and offered to help any time that he could. He had three grandsons, Taylor Frederick, Austin Dunn, and Chase Dunn who loved their “Pop” and looked forward to the breakfasts that he would cook. Chancey also adored his nieces and nephews and looked forward to opportunities to catch up with family members. Pop, we will always carry your memory in our hearts. Special thanks to the staff at the Beehive Homes of Lewisville for the loving care they provided to Chancey during the last year. We are forever grateful for everything you did to make him feel at home. Chancey is survived by daughter, Kari and husband Aaron Frederick of Argyle, stepson, Stacy Dunn of Mansfield; grandsons: Taylor Frederick of Argyle, and Austin and Chase Dunn of Mansfield; sisters: Jo Whaley of North Richland Hills, Nell Polson of Fort Worth, and Peggy Gregory of Flower Mound. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.E. and Mary (Wilson) Dunn, sisters: Loree Bruns, Alice VonRee, Virginia Massey, Mary Faye Lawler; and brothers: HA Dunn and Buddy Dunn. Pallbearers are: Hal Hickerson, Andy Wilks, Taylor Frederick, Bobby Bruns, Mark Taylor, and Mike Whaley.
