Thelma Gaston

Friends and family celebrated the life of Thelma Long Gaston, 88, of Saint Jo, Texas. On Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 am, in a service at First Baptist Church, Saint Jo, with Rev. Tim Williams and Rev. Doug Underhill officiating. Pallbearers were James Beane, Paul Giffen, Joe Tom Hancock, Mike Martin, Johnny Sewell, and Tom Weger. Honorary Pallbearers were Gary Brewer, Charles Dennis, Rodger Dunn, Johnny Dowd, Dale Gaston, Wayne Gaston, Don Hudspeth, Warren Hudspeth, Gerald Lanier, Gerald Snow, Ronnie Snow, Dudley Sparkman, and Wendell Thompson. Pianist’s Jonna Langford and Maurine Erwin, accompanied Candice Moore and a Quartet including Brian Durham, Carol Harris, Candice Moore and Rocky Roberts. Tom Weger shared heartfelt remarks about Thelma’s life. Thelma went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2018. She was on born July 10, 1930, in the Peabody Community near Saint Jo and was the only child of JC and Addie (Dunn) Long. She graduated from Saint Jo High School in 1947. On November 23, 1947 she married Melving “Brean” Gaston also of Saint Jo. Thelma was a homemaker, caregiver, fantastic cook and incredible friend to many. She was always ready to help, and her home was open to everyone. Her greatest joy was cooking for a house full of family and friends. She decorated cakes for many weddings and birthdays in the community. She also enjoyed serving on the hostess committee at First Baptist Church where she was a faithful member. In her later years it was her delight to follow her grandchildren in all their activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin “Brean” Gaston, and her parents JC and Addie Long, and two special “grandkids” Todd and Kelly Hogstad. She is survived by her children, David Gaston and wife Sharon, Doug Gaston and wife Jana, Darla Prueninger and husband Mike, all of Saint Jo. She was “Daw” to Lauren Gaston of Canyon, Texas and Lane Gaston of Saint jo. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Tuck, of Azle, Texas and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. The family is very grateful to Thelma’s caregivers, Sally Tillery of Forestburg, Nocona Home Health, for years of care and friendship, and Muenster Memorial Hospital Nurses, Aides, and Administration, for all their care and kindness. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
