William Wayne Williams

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of William Wayne Williams, 84, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, on December 22, 2024, in his home in Saint Jo, Texas. Wayne was born on November 1, 1940, in Saint Jo, Texas, to Burl Lee Williams and Mary Elizabeth Phillips. He graduated from Saint Jo High School in 1959 and attended Paris Junior College. Wayne proudly served his country in the Marine Corps, demonstrating unwavering dedication and strength. Wayne retired from Shell Oil Company after twenty-five years of service in 1991. Wayne had many talents and passions. During his youth, he played football and basketball. Later in life, he enjoyed hobbies such as golf, enduro racing, raising cattle, and participating in stock horse competitions. A true outdoorsman, Wayne was known for his love of fishing—always dreaming of catching “the big one” at the lake. He also served his community as a member of the Montague County Sheriff’s Posse and was deeply committed to serving his Lord and Savior. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn Ann Williams, and his loving family, including his son Mark Williams and wife Kim Williams (Denver City), his son Johnny Williams (Odessa), his grandson Jarrod Wayne Williams and wife Lindsey Williams (Dallas), his granddaughter Audra Kopp and husband Brad Kopp (Arizona), his grandson Cameron Williams (Odessa), and his great-grandchildren Tucker Wayne, Shepherd Knight, and Wylie Jane Williams. He is also survived by extended family members: Kerrie and Ryan Short (Lubbock) and their son, Brock Pennington; Clint and Mandy Pennington (Sherman) and their children Luke and wife Addy Pennington, along with their son Micah. Cade Pennington and fiancé Katie, and Lexi Shields; Dale and John Melton (Saint Jo), along with their children Bailey and Caleb Harris, Brady Melton, Caleb Melton and wife Ashley, along with their daughter Ivy, and Chelsea and James Fleckenstein, along with their son Preston. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Burl Lee and Mary Elizabeth Williams; his first wife, Nancy Jane Williams; and his sister, Sue Waggoner. The family invites you to honor Wayne’s memory at a graveside service on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo, Texas. Jarrod Williams will officiate the service, under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Saint Jo. Pallbearers will be Mark Williams, Johnny Williams, Cameron Williams, Clint Pennington, John Melton, and Brady Melton. Wayne was a kind and generous soul who cherished his family, faith, and community. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his love, integrity, and the countless lives he touched.
