Rosary and Vigil for Jane H. ‘Janie’ Weinzapfel, age 83, of Muenster was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charlie Roper, William Roper, Michael Weinzapfel, Andy Ware, Jimmy Jack ‘Jimbo’ Biffle II, and James Bright. Janie was born on March 16, 1935 in Muenster to Arthur Bernard Hellman and Pauline Catherine Otto. She married Henry Weinzapfel in 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mrs. Weinzapfel passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019. Janie started her over 40-year teaching career after graduating from East Texas State University. She taught at Sadler/Southmayd for 2 years then spent 11 years at Muenster High School teaching homemaking. She then transferred to the elementary where she remained until she retired. She wasn’t ready for retirement though. She gave another seven years helping remedial reading at elementary level. Janie and Henry also hosted 7 exchange students, 5 from Japan, and spent time delivering communion and Meals on Wheels. For the past 24 years, Janie was part of a bible study/prayer group. She made over 150 Home Hospice teddy bears, was a volunteer greeter at Muenster Memorial Hospital, and made baby blankets for ABBA and others. Mrs. Weinzapfel is survived by husband: Henry Weinzapfel; daughters: Milissa and husband Chuck Roper of Hendersonville, NC; sons: Ronnie and wife Tina Weinzapfel, Robert and wife Christine Weinzapfel, and Joe and wife Kristen Weinzapfel all of Muenster; sister: Carol and husband John Aytes of Muenster; brothers: Doug and Sylvia Hellman of Durango, CO, Marq and wife Rosemary Hellman of Bryan, and Lonnie and wife Pam Hellman of Colleyville; sister-in-law: Betty Hellman of Lindsay; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Mrs. Weinzapfel is preceded in death by parents: Arthur and Pauline Hellman; infant daughter: Melinda; sister: Colette and husband Jimmy Jack Biffle; and brother: Glenn Hellman.
