Funeral service for John Calvin “Cal” York, age 17 of Muenster is set for 1:30 PM, Thursday May 25, 2017 at Muenster Public Competition Gym in Muenster. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie at 4:00 PM. The family is being cared for by Scott Funeral Home in Muenster. John Calvin York was born on September 12, 1999, in Wichita Falls, TX. He passed away May 20, 2017. Cal lived in Bowie until 2004 when his family moved to Whitney, TX. He attended Pre-K through 5th grade at Whitney ISD and loved his Wildcat friends. Cal then attended 6th grade in Hillsboro with his awesome Eagle buddies. Another move took the York family to West, TX, where Cal completed 7th and 8th grade with his Trojan family. A final move brought Cal to Muenster, TX for his freshman, sophomore, and junior years where he became a very proud Hornet. Cal was an avid basketball player and loved to be on the court. In the summers, Cal attempted to be a snow cone maker. He is survived by his parents John and Jodie York; sister, Jaycie York; grandparents, John and Carol York and Jerry and Carolyn Cantwell; uncles: Rowdy Cantwell, Rayce Cantwell, John Paul Heath, and Jakus White; aunts: Shelly Cantwell and Jennifer York; 1st cousin: Josh Heath and many beloved great aunts, great uncles, and beloved cousins. Cal was preceded in death by his great grandparents, James and Barbara Barron, Harvey and Josephine Doris, Robert and Berniece Cantwell, and George and Ruby Allen. Pallbearers are: John Weger, Clay Stevens, Logan Cook, Bryce Herr, Blake Hoepfner, Blayne Jones, Mathew Porter, Billy Felderhoff, Michael Moseley, Kane Tamplin, Kody Walterscheid, Major Eldridge, and Danny Luttmer. Honorary Pallbearers are: C.T. Trubenbach, Max Herr, Sam Hesse, and Brad Henscheid. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to establish a scholarship in Cal’s name.
