Allen James Reiter

Allen James Reiter passed away at his home in Muenster at the age of 78 on December 22, 2024. He was born January 25, 1946. Allen was the ninth child of ten children born to August and Hilda Reiter. Mass of Christian Burial for Allen James Reiter will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary and Vigil will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Scott Funeral Home in Muenster. Allen married Shirley Wimmer on February 12, 1966 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster, Texas. They were blessed with two daughters, Janet Reiter Sall, and Tammie Reiter Caldwell. Allen was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sant Joseph Society, the Muenster Jaycees, a men’s baseball league, and a volunteer for the Muenster Fire Department. Allen Started working at the age of 15 and continued working until his retirement. His first job was at the local hatchery for Mr. Clive Gobble. He and Larry Wayne Gobble worked there every day after school. He couldn’t have had a better “first” boss. Allen was a very hard-working man. He held various jobs in the oil field, Metal Sales and Rite Weld. He also worked as a Schlitz distributor but for many years he was a self-employed welder. Early in their marriage the young family lived in Dallas. During this time Allen traveled to different states doing stainless steel welding. After a few years they moved back to Muenster where they soon built their current home. Allen loved fishing, hunting, and metal detecting. He had fond memories of taking his grandson Kyle, and the cub scouts fishing at the family farm north of town. This is where Courtney and Stephanie learned to drive and feed cows. Brooke and Chelsey were the first of the grandchildren to enjoy drinking hot chocolate with Papa at the local coffee shop. He’d read the paper while they read the comics. Papa’s beef jerky and salsa was the best. He loved giving this to the grandkids. But the best part was the joy he received knowing how much they enjoyed it. Allen is survived by his wife Shirley, grandchildren Kyle Caldwell, Brooke Caldwell (Josh Stevens), Chelsey (Jace) Bridwell, Courtney Kiggins, and Stephanie Sall and his brother Roy Reiter (Carmen) and sisters-in-laws Cindy Miller (Ted), and Mary Cain (Ken). Allen was preceded in death by his daughters Janet Sall and Tammie Caldwell, granddaughter Adrienne Marie Reiter, parents August and Hilda Reiter, sisters Bernice Sicking, Delores Reiter, and Patricia Reiter, brothers Jackie Reiter, David Reiter, Leonard Reiter, Donald Reiter, Billy Joe Reiter, sisters-in-laws Paula Reiter, Mary Reiter, and Jan Reiter, nephew Mark Sicking, and mother and father-in-law John and Olivia Wimmer. Words cannot express how thankful we are for all the help we received during Allen’s Illness. Also, the food and the lawn mowing was greatly appreciated. We are blessed to have such good family, friends, and neighbors. A special thank you to Angels Home Health and to Grayson, Cooke and Fannin Counties Home Hospice.
