David "Dave" John Haverkamp

Mass of Christian Burial for David “Dave” John Haverkamp, age 77 of Muenster, is set for 10:00 AM, Monday, April 23, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the funeral home in Muenster. Pallbearers are: Terry Bartel, Leon Walterscheid, Leonard Vogel, Lucas Thompson, Kevin Haverkamp, and Floyd Haverkamp. Arrangements are under the direction of Scott Funeral Home in Muenster. Mr. Haverkamp passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Dave was born February 15, 1941 in Muenster to William and Rosalie (Noggler) Haverkamp. Dave served his country in Vietnam. Upon his return to Muenster, he bought Muenster Machine Shop and ran the business for thirty years. Dave loved living on the farm, gardening and raising cattle. He also bartended for many weddings. He fried chicken for the Sacred Heart Parish Father’s Day picnics for many years. Dave always had a soft spot for soldiers and always struck up a conversation when he saw someone with a cap showing their branch of service. They always had a story to tell Dave. He put the flag poles up at the Veteran’s area in Sacred Heart Cemetery as a labor of love. Dave loved to coon hunt and was known to have the best coon hounds in Cooke County. Many people called him from around the county wanting to run their dogs with his. They were all amazed at Dave’s coon hounds. Dave was a loving husband, friend and dad who loved Muenster, Texas and Sacred Heart Parish. Survivors include his: wife, Sue (Watson) Haverkamp of Muenster, daughter, Cindy and husband, Ray Bennett of Gainesville; grandchildren: Lucas and wife, Gigi Thompson of Saint Jo and Amanda Thompson of Plano; great-grandchildren: Avery and Landry Jo Thompson of Saint Jo; brother-in-law, Bill Watson of Kaufman; nephews: Billy and wife, D’Ann Haverkamp of Muenster, Floyd and wife, Letha Haverkamp of Muenster, and Kevin Haverkamp of Muenster and niece, Denise and husband, Tim Smith of Muenster. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Carolyn Sneiderjan, and brother, Dan Haverkamp. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Muenster Volunteer Fire Department.
