David Eugene 'Speedy'' Reiter

Funeral service for David Eugene 'Speedy' Reiter will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rosary and Vigil will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Scott Funeral Home in Muenster. Pallbearers will be Skylar Ruttman, Bryston Reiter, Corbin Reiter, CJ Reiter, Luke Reiter, Colby Reiter, Leevi Brown, and Gregory Giles. Speedy was born on February 1, 1934 to August (Gussie) Reiter and Hilda (Knabe) Reiter. He left his earthly home to be with his heavenly Father on February 2, 2023. Speedy was inducted into the US Navy on March 27, 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was stationed in San Diego, California with time spent on the USS Begor until his discharge on October 24, 1957. He spent many years working at the VFW. He was an advocate for veterans. While running the Mobil and Conoco filling stations, many a day he would be seen sitting Indian style working on the vehicles. But vehicles weren’t the only thing he would work on. Kids needing help with their bikes could always count on Speedy. He was an avid gardener. He kind heartily shared his abundant harvests with those around him. It was common for him to drop off produce or fresh eggs to people all around town. He enjoyed spending time with the family, especially his grandkids. Nothing meant more to him than taking them for rides on the tractor or taking walks through the creek enjoying nature. Being true to his nickname, Speedy would challenge the kids to a foot race…a barefoot race! This even happened just a few weeks ago. He could often be found playing dominoes at the VFW. His favorite domino partner was Butch Fisher. Speedy was well known around town for making the best pizza burgers ever. He could often be seen wearing his hat with the bill flipped up. He never met a stranger. Just a brief time spent with him, felt like you were old friends, cutting up and telling jokes. Speedy is survived by his significant other: Wanda ‘Gail’ Smith of Muenster; children: Tricia Ruttman of Gainesville, Kenny and Kim Reiter of Lindsay, Mike Reiter of Nocona, Shonna Reiter of Grand Prairie, Brandon and Sondra Reiter of Sanger, and Jill Reiter and Clayton Fenoglio of Montague; grandchildren: Skylar Ruttman, Courtney Ruttman, Bryston Reiter, Corbin Reiter, Luke Reiter, CJ Reiter, Landon Reiter, Colby Reiter, Zane Reiter, Leevi Brown and Kristen Block; sister: Bernice Sicking of Myra who passed away on February 5, 2023; and brothers: Roy Reiter of Muenster, Allen Reiter of Muenster, and Donald Reiter of California. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gussie and Hilda Reiter; brothers: Jackie Reiter, Leonard Reiter, and William ‘Billy’ Reiter; and sisters: Dolores Reiter and Patricia Reiter.
