Don Haney

Donald E Haney, 75, passed away on the evening of August 12, 2018 in Muenster, Texas. He was born on October 7, 1942 in Nocona, Texas to Elzie M Haney and Edith Allen Haney. He was born into a loving family of two older sisters and two younger sisters as the only son. He attended school at Nocona ISD and enlisted into the Air Force in December 1960 and retired September 30, 1981. He married Obie Lee Graham of Saint Jo on June 1, 1963, they have been happily married for 55 years. They have two children, Donald E Haney, Jr and Dustin Graham Haney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Edith, his sister Margie and his son, Donnie. Don completed his GED in the Air Force while holding a job as an inventory management specialist in the logistics division. During his military career he was stationed with his family at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas, Right-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, served one year in Vietnam, Altus Air Force Base in Altus, Oklahoma, Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, and Anderson Air Force Base in Guam. During his Air Force career, he received awards, including three commendations medals with Oak Leaf Clusters and TAC Com Area, Supply Man of the Year. After retiring from the Air Force, he moved his family back to Montague County where he and his wife purchased the Saint Jo Dairy Queen. In Don’s younger years, he and his family enjoyed going to the lake, water skiing, boating and camping. Since moving to Saint Jo, his hobbies was his farm and driving around the town and the country side. He enjoyed his children and his grandchildren and was always present at each of their activities when able. In early years he was active in the Booster Club, a pervious member of the Saint Jo ISD School Board and a member of First Baptist Church of Saint Jo. He and Obie went on several vacations, as they enjoyed traveling when possible. Due to Don’s battle with Parkinson’s for the past 10 years and more recently lung cancer he has not been fully able to enjoy life and illness limited his ability to attend events that he previously enjoyed. He loved his companion, Buster and appreciated his caregiver of 8 years, Janet Pugh. Don is survived by his wife, Obie Lee Haney of Saint Jo, his son Dustin and wife Jennifer of Saint Jo, his grandchildren, Bret and Emily of Saint Jo. His sisters, Wanda McNatt and husband Steve of Nocona, Janey Price and husband Richard of Austin and Virginia Westergern and husband Art of Fort Lauderdale and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 6pm to 7pm at the Scott Funeral Home in Saint Jo. Graveside rights will be at Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 2 pm.
